Online Wills – Law Depot

Someone sent me an email and asked me to check out Law Depot’s Online Wills service. Once I had a bit of time, I surfed on over to take a look. On their website, I saw that they provide a lot of legal documents from Wills, real estate, loans to sales and even prenuptial agreements. That’s a lot of legal documents and give more confidence about using their services.

Anyway, I tried out the online Will service, which is pretty straight forward. What I liked about the whole process is that everything is on one page. You don’t have to wait for each section to load before going to the next section.

The other thing I liked about putting in the information is that there are tiny question marks where you can click to get further explanation quickly.

Comparing Nolo’s online Will and Law Depot’s, I find Nolo somehow gives a more thorough “feel” when you are drafting your Will. However, when you actually fill in the information, both are about equal in this aspect. The only difference is that if you are not familiar with drafting a Will, Nolo have a bit more explanation at each section. [Read more →]

Online Wills – E-Wills Online

e-online-wills

I came across e-wills-online today and I first thought they were doing what I’m doing here, which is to review and write about online Wills services. Then, I saw that they actually have a service to write your Will for $9.99. At that price, I think it is a bit too cheap. Even though the idea of getting services online to get cheaper prices, I’m a bit suspicious of a service that charges less than $10. Since it not fair to pre-judge a book by its cover, I held back my opinions until I look further.

At first look, the website is hard to read. Fonts are small and the color scheme makes reading the information a bit of a chore. There is a FAQ style page that provides a glossary of legal terms and common questions people ask about writing wills. I found this helpful for anyone who is not familiar with Wills.

I was eager to see  how the process is for a $9.90 online will. Clicking on purchase tab brought me to a single page with an advertised 3 step process. They are:-

  1. Complete the provided form in full and press ’submit’ to be taken through to the WorldPay payment page.
  2. Enter your credit card details and follow the WorldPay steps.
  3. You will receive an email with a link to a printable copy of your will.

Wills Online – Nolo

I stumbled across Wills drafted online by Nolo quite by accident. While I knew that Nolo publishes many books related to wills and estate planning, as well as the popular Quicken Willmaker software, I didn’t know they have a version for online wills. Perhaps it wasn’t promoted that much.

Anyway, there are 3 packages if you want to use their service to write your Will online. The basic one cost $69.95, the mid level one at $89.95 and the top end Suite at $99.95. There is no difference in terms of your online Will between the 3 packages. My thoughts about the different packages a bit later.

Like most other Wills services online, you register for a free account to begin. Then you just fill in the information at each step. What I like about Nolo’s service is even before you begin, all the key question you might have about their service is right on the same page. All the question I could think of is all there; the price an online Will, whether it is suitable for you or not, common FAQ and even a sample Will is there for you. [Read more →]

Online Wills – Global Wills

One of the online wills site I came across is GlobalWills.com. They provide online wills for several countries including the US, Canada, UK, Australia and Irish. The prices are also reasonable at around US$38 and £17.95 for a UK will. Besides wills, they also provide document for power of attorney, living will and advance estate planning.

Assuming you are a US citizen, Global Wills allows you to select the state you are in. In case you didn’t know, different states have slightly different laws and requirements. I believe that by choosing the state you are in, you can avoid a lot of pitfalls that many attorney speak about. They even do Louisiana wills online having taken this state’s laws into consideration. Many sites just avoid doing Louisiana wills all together.

What I like about Global Wills is that their online wills are lawyer prepared documents. So you can be sure that difference in language and wording in different countries are taken into consideration.
